Operation Compassion Continues Assisting Christians in Iraq

By , September 22, 2016

iraqi-kidsNearly 2,000 years ago, St. Thomas started a church in Erbil which is in modern day Iraq.  Erbil is located about 55 miles east of Mosul and has a permanent population of about 1.5 million. Erbil is also the capital and largest city of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, a city that dates back to 6000 BC.

For centuries the church in Erbil has assisted refugees fleeing one terror or disaster after another. Today, that church is assisting Christian refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria and the terror created by ISIS throughout the Middle East.

childrenfleeAs part of Operation Compassion’s ongoing partnerships with non-profit agencies, organizations and churches, Erbil has become a natural distribution point. To fulfill the mission of Operation Compassion to help care for people caught in extreme poverty, last week 2 containers arrived from Operation Compassion with 150,000 meals designed to nutritionally fortify and sustain the hungry and undernourished. In addition, shoes, hygiene items and other selected products were sent from our Cleveland, TN warehouse.

With thousands of refugees moving to Erbil, Operation Compassion felt it necessary to help those trying to escape this humanitarian disaster. Operation Compassion is reaching the world. Will you join us? With your help, there is no limit to the assistance that Operation Compassion can offer!
