Operation Compassion sends aid to assist Nashville Flood Relief

By , May 6, 2010

(Nashville, TN) The reports from the Tennessee flooding have been overwhelming. Many Tennessee residents continue to wait for floodwaters to recede before they can assess the damage caused by weekend rains. Estimates of the damage from weekend flooding could easily top $1 billion in Nashville alone.
Operation Compassion continues to send much needed relief supplies to the flood-stricken region of Williamson and Davidson counties in and around Nashville, TN. Operation Compassion, along with partners, has already set-up 8 relief sites and has delivered over 6 semi trucks of supplies with 10 more semis to arrive by next weekend. Operation Compassion is also working with God’s Pit Crew to assist individuals with clean-up, and delivering supplies.

One of those fully-loaded semi arrived in Williamson County on Thursday, May 6. A temporary resource staging area has been set-up in a warehouse provided by Williamson County Mayor, Rogers Anderson.  Today’s truck contained 24 pallets of bottled water, Gatorade, cleaning supplies and ready-to-eat food. The donated goods were provided by “Feed the Children” and Publix grocery stores.

In a few fast-paced hours on Capitol Hill, State Representative Kevin Brooks of Cleveland, along with other representatives pooled their resources to quickly put together disaster relief action plans.

Local Franklin pastor, Rev. Charlie Weir of Gateway Church coordinated volunteers for organizing the relief efforts. Pastor Weir commented, “Gateway Church has been looking for tangible ways to serve our community, this is an amazing opportunity to serve.”

Rep. Kevin Brooks, along with other representatives are personally overseeing the delivery and distribution of local relief efforts for Williamson and Cheatham Counties.  Operation Compassion needs your help to assist those who have went through this devastating flood.
