Operation Compassion Participates with Christmas Shoe Box Program

By , November 15, 2004

Operation Compassion recently joined forces with Life Care Centers of America, one of the largest elderly residential care companies in the United States, in sponsoring shoe boxes filled with Christmas items. Mr. Forrest Preston, President and CEO, Mr. Beecher Hunter, Executive Vice-President and the staff have been involved in this drive for Operation Christmas Child for many years. In fact, Life Care is the world’s largest corporate sponsor of shoe boxes having donated more than 35,000 last year.

One of largest supporters of this project with Life Care has been the owner of Ocoee Transport, Mr. Lou Winters. In fact, Mr. Winters has donated thousands of dollars of free shipping to Operation Compassion for disaster relief and to our Native American projects of the North Central and Southwest. In fact, it was Mr. Winters that introduced Operation Compassion to Life Care in hopes of increasing the number of children receiving help from Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse operated by Franklin Graham in Boone, NC. During the 2003 Christmas season, Operation Christmas Children received 6.6 million shoe boxes and delivered them to 90 countries around the world. Children living in some of the most poverty stricken countries of the world were able to receive Christmas toys, a few school supplies and candy; some for the first time in their young lives.

In 2004, Operation Compassion has donated enough stocking stuffers, candy and hygiene products to fill 20,000 shoe boxes for Life Care Centers in Cleveland, TN. The partnership of Operation Compassion providing product, Ocoee Transport providing free transportation of the four semis of shoe boxes and sorting facilities, Lee University’s volunteers and Life Care Center’s commitment of the total project equal an amazing Christmas for several thousand additional children.
