On December 14th, Operation Compassion delivered its thirteenth
semi-truck of food and relief supplies to New York City. Since the
September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City
and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., Operation Compassion has made
supplying the relief effort a major priority. With the military
supplying the relief effort at the Pentagon, Operation Compassion
turned its attention the New York City.

Almost immediately, Operation Compassion began delivering much
needed supplies for the rescue and recovery operation. Boots, socks,
respirators, blankets, bottled water and batteries were among the
first supplies delivered right to ground zero. Then, food and clothing
for those who lost their jobs due to the disaster and economic downturn
were needed. Shortly afterward, Christmas became a priority. Operation
Compassion made Christmas possible for over ten thousand children
that would have otherwise been without.

During the latest trip, two very different men received Christ
as their personal savior. One man was homeless and asked if he could
help unload the truck. Shortly after, Roger Abernathy, Coordinator
of National Distribution Centers for Operation Compassion, began
to witness to him. Suddenly, the man wanted to know this Jesus that
would motivate men and women to travel so far to help. Pastor Chiesa
and a few men of the 3rd Street Church of God began to pray with
him and he was gloriously saved.

The second of these men was the son of a Church of God minister
that had backslid. His father asked if he could help unload the
truck. During the unloading, he asked if they would pray with him.
God marvelously reclaimed him into His grace. For these two testimonies,
Operation Compassion rejoices!
With the dawning of the New Year, Operation Compassion will continue
its commitment to New York City. Throughout 2002, Operation Compassion
will deliver many more semi-trucks loaded with food and supplies.
By years end, approximately twenty-five semi-trucks loaded with
food, blankets, water, other supplies and toys will have been delivered
to those in New York City recovering from this tragic incident.

Of course, this type of relief effort does not happen by accident
or alone. Operation Compassion has partnered with numerous corporations
across the United States, all supplying products for the relief
effort. Many New York City Churches of God have opened their doors
in providing drop-off and pick-up points for those in need in their
communities. New York City Police Department precincts have organized
block parties for Christmas distribution of food and toys for the
families in their neighborhoods. In addition, literally thousands
of men and women have volunteered to attend the necessary tasks
involved in such an undertaking.

When the tragedy of September 11th first occurred, the thought
of the massive relief effort necessary to affect a positive outcome
appeared to be insurmountable. However, within four short months,
that massive relief effort has gone forward with great success.
While it will take some time to conclude, Operation Compassion has
committed to continue its relief effort in New York City.
