The first weekend of December 2001 will be remembered as the beginning
of an expanded partnership in the aftermath of the New York City
attacks. Under the leadership of Larry and Francis Jones of Feed
the Children and David Lorency, International Field Director of
Operation Compassion, 1800 families were provided with food, toys,
personal articles and snacks for the Holiday Season.

Beginning on Saturday at 9:00am, three Feed the Children semi-trucks
pulled up in front of the 6th Street Church of God where Pastors
Angel and Carmen Rodriquez had begun lining people up for distribution.
They had given 700 families advance coupons to the event. However,
the line of people kept growing until it went down 6th Street and
around the corner to the next block. For five hours, Larry and Francis
Jones, Dave Lorency, Pastors Rodriquez, Hector Chiesa, Event Coordinator
and members of the 6th Street Church of God distributed a 26 pound
box of food, assorted toys, a box of personal hygiene articles and
a grocery bag full of candy, chips and snack cakes. By 2:00 pm,
more than 100,000 pounds had been given to families that had worked
in the businesses, hotels and restaurants destroyed in the September
11th attacks.

Although families were still lined up after the event was concluded,
this is not the end. Feed the Children and Operation Compassion
began an expanded partnership that will continue to minister to
those families affected by the loss of jobs in the area of the World
Trade Center into 2002. As Feed the Children continues to donate
food and products for distribution, Operation Compassion will continue
to coordinate distribution points and man power within New York
City.
