The archipelago of the Bahamas consists of approximately 700 islands, islets and cays spread out across 500 miles of the Atlantic Ocean. About 30 of the islands are inhabited and are very low and flat. The highest points rise no more than 50 to 66 feet above sea level.

Operation Compassion begins Relief to Hurricane Michael Survivors

As Hurricane Michael blew onshore in Florida and on into Georgia, Operation Compassion began formulating a plan to get help to the survivors as quickly as possible. With winds in excess of 155 miles per hour and storm surge between 9 and 12 feet, the immediate coastline was devastated. Hurricane Michael continued its devastation on into Georgia as a category 3 storm throughout yesterday afternoon.
