An American tradition finds a new home and a new purpose; orphan children sell their own possessions to send aid to the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. On any given Saturday morning in America, there is a ritual throughout the land from early spring until almost winter, of families and neighbors hosting yard sales. This week, orphan children in Guatemala saw the devastation in Oklahoma and decided to bring this tradition of yard sales to Guatemala and use it to benefit the victims through Operation Compassion.

As the news of the tornado outbreaks in Texas and Oklahoma have gripped the nation for a week now, Operation Compassion is continuing to remain vigilant and expanding their response and recovery work. Once the tragedy in Moore, OK became apparent, Operation Compassion began to formulate a strategy for relief efforts. It was not long before our disaster relief partners were contacted and plans were made to mobilize as quickly as possible. Warehouse employees began to stage 25 semi-trailers of bottled water, blankets, food and cleaning supplies as the first semis began moving early Tuesday morning.
