In 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan after a 25 year civil war. Shortly after the celebration of liberation, the ruling political party divided and began infighting. By 2013, the political fighting devolved into street violence in the capital city and in many major cities across South Sudan and another civil war broke out leaving thousands fleeing for their lives. In 2017, government

 and world officials declared a famine throughout South Sudan as millions of people, mostly children, were starving to death.

The destruction brought to the island nation of Tortola by Hurricane Maria was of such devastation that it is difficult to understand without actually being there. The reports coming from Tortola spoke of utter destruction; no one knew what to do or where to start. Government buildings and communications where destroyed, local charities, agencies and churches were destroyed, everywhere people turned to for help and assistance were destroyed. Operation Compassion Sends Christmas to Tortola

In late November, in the middle of a strategic disaster relief effort for Tortola, Operation Compassion began anticipating the need to send Christmas items to the island nation. Tortola had survived a category 5 hurricane and was trying to dig out and rebuild. IMG_3598Since the inception of Operation Compassion, Haiti has been a priority for receiving products and supplies. Haiti has always been a country of extreme poverty especially in the outlying areas away from the major cities. At one point, Operation Compassion sent so many birthing packs that the birth mortality rate dropped in rural areas.

Symbolically the first stone for the reconstruction of the important Christian City is laid by Archbishop of Mosul, City officials.

Operation Compassion is joining forces with Hope Charitable Services and Frank Allen and his partner, Henry Cappello of Caritas in Veritate International (CiVi), in an effort to rebuild homes for 25,000 refugees that were forced out of their homes. Baghdeda, Iraq is a Christian city located near Mosul that was occupied by ISIS fighters and recently liberated.
