Operation Compassion continues delivering much needed disaster relief supplies to the survivors of Hurricane Harvey throughout the Houston area and beyond. With 18 disaster relief sites active across the Houston metro area, 8 warehouse sites receiving semi-trailers and delivering to other areas in smaller trucks, pick-up trucks and trailers and 10 church sites receiving loads for local distribution. Operation Compassion has delivered or scheduled 34 trucks during the first week following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall. In addition, there are 71 trucks staged and ready for delivery.

Hurricane Harvey has been designated by some weather experts as a 1 in 1,000 year disaster. With more than 1 million people displaced across the Texas Gulf Coast and into Louisiana, Operation Compassion is responding with all of its assets and enlisting the help of many disaster relief partners from across the United States. One partner in Hawaii is sending product, California, Connecticut, Miami, Florida, Chicago, IL, literally from all parts of the United States, product is being sent to Operation Compassion and made available to the survivors.

Operation Compassion Continues Relief Effort in Texas

Operation Compassion is in full disaster relief mode as semi-trucks are moving into the disaster area created by Hurricane Harvey and the aftermath of the torrential rainfall that tallied more than 50 inches and counting. Food, bottled water, blankets, cleaning supplies and hygiene products are a few of the items contained in each truck. Each semi-truck contains 24 pallets of product which weighs approximately 40,000 pounds.

Operation Compassion Prepares for Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey is forecast to become a category 3 hurricane before its landfall later tonight or into early Saturday somewhere between Port O’Conner and Matagorda Bay, Texas. Weather forecasters are predicting a catastrophic and life-threatening landfall with 6 to 12 feet of flooding as more than 3 feet of rain is expected. As winds climb to 125 mile per hour or more devastating damage to homes, businesses and other structures are likely.
