Flooding continues in storm-ravaged areas of North and South Carolina. In some locations, as much as forty inches of rain has fallen threatening mudslides, cresting rivers, and the breaching of dams. The situation is dire, but help is on the way. 

Beginning this past Sunday, September 16th, trucks filled with critical relief-aid supplies began arriving in the affected areas. According to David Lorency, president of Operation Compassion, “Sixteen local churches are serving as distribution sites, along with three warehouses, and three factories. There are also three locations in the impacted area that will be used to provide hot meals.”

Hurricane Florence from space

Hurricane Florence has become a category 4 hurricane. While it is about 1,254 miles off the east coast of the U.S., forecasters are predicting a Thursday afternoon to evening landfall. Although it is a little early to know for certain where Florence will make landfall, most of the forecasts are pointing to a stretch of coast between Myrtle Beach, SC and The Outer Banks, NC. NOAA is predicting a catastrophic and life-threatening landfall with large surf or storm surge, catastrophic flooding and more than 2 feet of rain. Last month, Operation Compassion joined two of our valued ministry partners on a missionto send 580,000 meals to the starving children in South Sudan. We are proud to announce those have arrived and are being distributed as promised!

Operation Compassion Assists with Meals to South Sudan

In 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan after a 25 year civil war. Shortly after the celebration of liberation, the ruling political party divided and began infighting. By 2013, the political fighting devolved into street violence in the capital city and in many major cities across South Sudan and another civil war broke out leaving thousands fleeing for their lives. In 2017, government

 and world officials declared a famine throughout South Sudan as millions of people, mostly children, were starving to death.

Donnie Smith, CEO of Operation Compassion, Passes Away

Dr. Donnie Smith, , passed away on June 9, 2018. Funeral arrangements have been received for the visitation and services.

Smith has served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Operation Compassion since his appointment in 2006. Dr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Lee University, a Master of Arts and Master of Divinity from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Cross-Cultural Ministries from Columbia Theological Seminary. In November of 2009 he received commendation from the White House for his outstanding work among the Hispanic churches across America and for teaching Hispanic pastors on how to help the nation’s poor.
