Operation Compassion Distributes Blankets Across the United States

By , February 27, 2014

Operation Compassion provided many of its non-profit partners with blankets for distribution during the winter months. When Operation Compassion received the blankets, no one knew the 2013-14 winter would set records across the mid-west, eastern and southern United States. Many areas have set records for low temperature and snowfall making it extremely difficult for the homeless and underserved populations to survive.

From the first of December 2013 through February 21, 2014, Operation Compassion has given away more than 71,000 blankets. During the week of February 3-7, 2014 and the arrival of the Polar Vortex bringing sub-zero temperatures and record setting snowfall, more than 17,000 blankets were distributed alone.

Operation Compassion received these blankets as part of a grant for distribution anywhere in the United States.

Because of the severe low temperatures and unusual snowfall as far south as Baton Rouge, LA and as far east as the coastal regions of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, the need for these blankets have been tremendous.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) picked up a truckload of blankets from Operation Compassion. In South Carolina, the mayor established Safety Centers where the homeless can come receive a blanket and get out of the weather. Christ Central Ministries (CCM) was selected as their charity of choice to help those in need. Hope Charitable Services in Virginia distributed 10,000 blankets from the eastern shore down through northeast North Carolina as two massive storms hit the region within one week.

Operation Compassion and its partners have undertaken a very large job and assumed a great responsibility in helping provide for people that have little to no resources. Will you join with us, become a partner and together we can accomplish so much more.
