Operation Compassion rated as a Top 400 Non-Profit for the Second Year

By , November 9, 2009

For the second time in its history, Operation Compassion has been evaluated and included in the Chronicle of Philanthropy Top 400. The Chronicle of Philanthropy is the foremost authority in rating non-profits for their fundraising, distribution and gift-in-kind activity. The Chronicle of Philanthropy is to non-profits what the Forbes Top 400 list is to the wealthy.

The fiscal year ending in 2008 was the second year Operation Compassion was invited to be surveyed. After meeting all the qualifications, Operation Compassion made the Top 400 list at number seventy-two (72). On the sub-list for international activity, Operation Compassion was listed as number fifteen (15). There are more than 1.2 million non-profits and they are rated based on their non-profit tax filing and annual audit.

To illustrate the importance of this survey, other non-profits included were United Way, The Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, Feed the Children, University of Virginia, CARE and UNC-Chapel Hill. All of these were preceding or following Operation Compassion in the survey.

Under the organization ranking, International, Operation Compassion is number fifteen behind non-profits such as Food for the Poor, Feed the Children, AmeriCares Foundation and World Vision. Many of these non-profits are a part of Operation Compassion’s network of disaster relief. These partners are an invaluable resource for Operation Compassion as we work together around the world.

For the last fifteen years, Operation Compassion has maintained the highest quality and integrity in record keeping, fundraising, product procurement and product distribution. Inclusion in the Chronicle of Philanthropy is recognition for the hard work and diligence of every employee and volunteer associated with Operation Compassion.
